NVIDIA used this week's Gamescom conference in Cologne to line up Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Embark Studios behind RTX Spark, a 1-petaflop Windows superchip scheduled to launch this fall S¹P³. The chip, first shown at COMPUTEX in May as a joint project with Microsoft, promises to run AAA games and AI workloads from a single piece of silicon. Whether it can hold that promise at a price gamers will actually pay is the question the next few months must answer.
My read: This is the most publisher support I've seen NVIDIA assemble before a hardware launch. The COMPUTEX roster in May already included KRAFTON, NetEase, Riot Games and Xbox S¹. Adding EA, Ubisoft and Embark three months later gives the platform real developer momentum. But I don't buy the single-chip fidelity claim yet, because every quote supporting it comes from a commercial partner. Stéphane Jankowski, Ubisoft's executive producer on Anno 117: Pax Romana, said seeing RTX Spark hold the game's fidelity from one chip is "genuinely impressive" S¹. That is a promotional statement, not an independent benchmark. I will watch for third-party frame-rate tests the moment review units ship.
What a 1-petaflop gaming chip actually is
RTX Spark is NVIDIA's attempt to build a new class of Windows PC around a single chip that delivers one petaflop of computing power P³. A petaflop is a quadrillion calculations per second. A decade ago, that kind of throughput needed a server rack.
The chip pairs with Windows and runs the full CUDA and RTX software stack, including DLSS (NVIDIA's AI upscaling tech that renders frames at lower resolution and reconstructs them to look sharp) and Reflex (which cuts the delay between a mouse click and the on-screen response) S¹P³. NVIDIA and Microsoft positioned it at COMPUTEX as a reinvention of the Windows PC for personal AI P³. The RTX ecosystem already spans more than 1000 games and apps P⁶, which gives publishers a reason to invest in the platform early. NVIDIA has been pushing deeper into edge computing all year. RTX Spark brings that same edge-first thinking to the consumer PC, where the same silicon handling AI inference can also drive real-time ray tracing and game rendering.
The publishers lining up
The Gamescom announcement adds three major publishers to the RTX Spark roster. Electronic Arts is bringing EA SPORTS F1 25 and Apex Legends. Ubisoft is bringing Anno 117: Pax Romana. Embark Studios is bringing ARC Raiders and THE FINALS S¹.
NVIDIA is also working with EA to bring native EA Javelin Anticheat support to RTX Spark, starting with EA SPORTS F1 25 S¹. Anticheat systems run deep in the operating system to detect cheating software, and getting them to work on a new platform is real engineering work. If EA's anticheat runs natively, it signals that RTX Spark is being treated as a full Windows platform, not a locked-down console.
The May COMPUTEX announcement already had KRAFTON, NetEase, Riot Games and Xbox on board S¹. That list, plus the three added at Gamescom, covers a broad stretch of the AAA and competitive gaming market.
The wider RTX net
Beyond RTX Spark, NVIDIA used Gamescom to push several updates to its broader GeForce ecosystem. DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction is available now S¹. Path tracing, the most demanding form of ray tracing, is coming to CONTROL Resonant and 007 First Light S¹. Gears of War: E-Day will ship with RTX Mega Geometry, ray tracing and DLSS 4.5 support on GeForce RTX GPUs S¹.
RTX Remix, NVIDIA's modding tool for remastering older games with ray tracing, got a major update for Painkiller and has The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind RTX coming soon S¹.
GeForce NOW, NVIDIA's cloud gaming service, is getting new DLSS 4.5 controls and expanded support for Steam Machine and other devices S¹. CONTROL Resonant and Gears of War: E-Day will be available on GeForce NOW at launch S¹.
What to do about it
If you run a custom PC building business, the kind that assembles rigs for local gamers and esports cafes, RTX Spark changes your planning horizon. A single chip that promises AAA fidelity means smaller enclosures and simpler cooling, with fewer components that can fail. A builder who currently specs a separate CPU and GPU for a mid-tier gaming rig might be looking at one chip doing both jobs by this time next year. The practical step this week: check whether your component suppliers have any RTX Spark roadmaps or developer kits available, because the builders who get early access to the platform will be the ones who can sell it first.
What we don't know yet
The biggest gaps are price, full specifications and an exact launch date. NVIDIA has only said "this fall" S¹. There are no independent benchmarks comparing RTX Spark to existing discrete GPU setups. We don't know whether the Gamescom titles will run exclusively on RTX Spark or also on other GeForce RTX GPUs. NVIDIA ACE technologies, which power AI-driven game characters, are coming to Aniimo in early 2027 S¹, but there is no detail on what that integration looks like.
